HONOLULU — U.S. Rep. Charles Djou has won seats on House panels that oversee the national budget and military affairs.

The Republican congressman was named Friday to the House Budget and Armed Services committees.

The budget committee post affords Djou a platform to further his campaign themes of balancing the federal budget and fiscal accountability.

He replaces former U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie on the military panel.

Abercrombie, a Democrat, resigned his seat in February to run for governor.

Djou defeated two Democratic rivals a week ago to win the special election to complete the remainder of Abercrombie's term.

He and a Democratic nominee will face off in November for a new term that begins in January.
